Never Gonna GIve You UP!

Davis Marketing Strategy HQ
I won't try to recap the last few months- it has been a real emotional rollercoaster. At the end of March, I gave up my position as International Business Manager at Mynewsdesk, to instead, start my own company because I wanted to work with those things that I feel passionate about but also have a bit more flexibility in my schedule. Starting a company in Sweden is relatively simple. There are numerous organizations that help people getting started. The real challenge is finding customers but if you communicate a passion for what you offer that too can go relatively easy as well.
I have a blog dedicated to my company at  http://davismarketingstrategy.wordpress.com

Its summer now and we are in the South of Sweden working on our house. I have a blog that I have dedicated to just that project at http://kyanainsweden.tumblr.com/ -its called KyanainSweden- The Renovation Project. Renovating a house is fun and we have actually fallen in love with every plank and nail. Its our life project. We have actually had a chance to stay here for a few weeks in a row and the obsession just grows stronger.

I decided to resuscitate this blog because there are things that I would like to share that don't really fit in the renovation blog or my company blog...just stuff from my life and personal journey.

I hope you have missed me because I have really missed writing in this blog. There are some other life changes on the way but its a bit too soon to make the big reveal. I just wanted to get started and let you know what's been going on and let you know that all is well with KyanainSweden.

In August my family will be traveling to Italy to celebrate a dear friend's birthday...its going to be amazing to see my friends again and reconnect with them.

So you see...its only getting better!

Skåne- Southern Sweden Video

In the South of Sweden there is a region called Skåne...its a special place with its own unique history and dialect, just like most places. My favorite thing about Skåne is how close it is to Blekinge! I hope you enjoy the video! Hugs! Kyanainsweden

Hi Everyone!

Happy to report that the snow is melting here, deals are starting to close, still have my job after my air guitar solo to Purple Rain at the company party and I am working from home today.

I am super productive working from home. Even have time to sneak in a quick blog post!

Anyway, I just wanted to check in and give you a little glimpse of my "office space" at home just in case anyone out there was wondering. Anyone??

Time to send off some emails and do a bit of prospecting but I hope you all have a great day!!

Kyana in Mynewsdesk Mode
Oh yeah...that is a Magic 8 Ball on my desk...I ask.."Magic 8 Ball, will this prospect become a potential customer"?

A Great Start to 2012

Ok...so if you know anything about me then you understand how much I love my job. I work in sales and its been a bit of a slow start. What I love the most are the people that I come into contact with everyday and building relationships with my customers. I have almost weekly meetings with some of them and I feel like what I sell helps them achieve their goals!! I work towards US and Canada from Sweden and that is quite a challenge but things are starting to happen!

Yesterday, I landed two contracts within a few hours of each other and it was so Amazing...our company has an internal Facebook group that I shared my achievement and the response was astounding. Although the US Team officially consists of three people I had Congrats coming at me from all our offices and it was so inspiring.

So, today I am a Happy Camper....deals are being made and goals are being achieved and I am feeling all warm and fuzzy, despite the weather.

Just wanted to share some of my joy from this week.

Going Back to School- På Distans

Hi Everyone!

I promised myself that after the new year I would sign up for Swedish writing classes in order to continue to develop my professional skills. I am very happy with my job and the start of my career here in Sweden but it dawned on me that working towards an English speaking market can also limit my opportunities in a Swedish sales organization. Of course, Stockholm offers an international work environment but what if we move? What if my husband finds an opportunity outside of Stockholm, the reality is that we have to be flexible in order to survive and perfecting my Swedish writing skills gives me that flexibility.

So, I will sign up for an online course and start with my classes. I might even write some blog posts in Swedish but I promise to have both languages so I don't lose my english speaking readers....that would be my Mom! But seriously I think this is the right decision and considering the amount of work I have it will be challenge but in a few years who knows what life will offer me. Considering that we don't have any plans on leaving Sweden, I have to assume that the opportunities will only be better if I can write på svenska!

Curious about the class? Check out Folkuniversitetet Swedish writing classes!

Happy Holidays!

In a few days I will return to the States to celebrate Christmas and New year with my family. I can't wait! The last time I was home was over a year ago which is not that bad really. I think the longest time that I have spent away from home was two years, that was painful.

I am looking forward to so many things but mostly its just listening to the wonderful sounds of my family, mostly women who are very close to laughter. There is so much life in my Grandmother's house and I will get a chance to soak it in and recharge for the coming year.

My daughter understands what I mean as well although its difficult for her to describe it. She just says that at Grandma's house everything is "buzzy" and then she twirls around.

There are so many things that I want to do but just the mundane things like going to the grocery store will be fun for me.

I miss the States constantly but never as much as I do, just a few days before I get to go back. You see, I understand that I live abroad now. I understand that I won't be able to visit with my Family as much as I would like. If I try to remain in two places at once I would very soon go crazy.

Sweden is a beautiful second home to me that has given me so much- its not a simple case of the US versus Sweden..its much more complex now.

I am happy to have both but I am really happy that I get to focus on the US just a bit more for a few weeks as least!

I hope you all have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Gotland in the Summer

My very first trip to Sweden was in 1998 or 1999. I remember they were building the bridge that links Copenhagen to Malmö then. We took the ferry over to Sweden from Denmark and drove home to Blekinge. During that trip I was lucky enough to visit Gotland. It really was a magical place. Something almost unsettling about it really. Its a beautiful island, full of history and culture. Well, except for a certain week in the summer..then the twenty-somethings from Stockholm invade and then its all about the party!!!
But...surprisingly enough not many people I meet have actually had a chance to visit Gotland, so if you are planning a trip to Sweden, try to visit Gotland...its amazing!

Enjoy the video

Sweden in the Fall

Stockholm is breathtaking this season. If my memory is correct it was already winter around this time last year. I almost don't remember a Fall, like this one .. So beautiful with the reds, yellows and orange colors that seem to be glowing or burning.
It's never easy to lose daylight now that the days are getting shorter but what a beautiful sight to behold- if only for a few hours!

Stockholm Vacation Destination- Hotel J

I had to share this with you all because I think it looks fabulous!
If you haven't decided to come and visit Stockholm for yourself let this be some inspiration for you.
Every once in a while I visit the Jetsetter website just to see what new destinations they have discovered and this hotel is actually located in the heart of Stockholm. It looks amazing and since I live in Stockholm I don't really stay in hotels but with the nature and the scenery it would be easy to "play tourist" in my own town and just have a little getaway close to home.
On my list of things to do is to visit Hotel J and just escape, at least for one night and preferably in the summertime.

The location is amazing, only 15 minutes away from Gamla Stan (Old Town) and views of Djurgården Island......Nice!

Check it out for yourself at http://www.hotelj.com/
Lobby at Hotel J- Source www.jetsetter.com

Guest Room at Hotel J- Source www.jetsetter.com
Obviously I have to do this!

So, are you planning your Stockholm vacation next summer?

You might see me!
